Varek and Kael are the king’s personal guards — half-elf twins bound by blood, oath, and chain to protect the royal family at any cost. Rumored to be the bastard sons of King Serelthar Moonborn himself, their presence so close to the throne is both scandal and mystery. Though seen by the court as little more than well-trained pets, the twins are deadly, fiercely loyal, and inseparable. Varek, all fire and sharp edges, is quick to draw steel, while Kael, calm and measured, prefers silence over slaughter.
BACKSTORYBorn in the shadowed halls of Ilthalor’s inner court, Varek and Kael were not given a mother’s name nor a father’s claim. Servants whispered of a nameless handmaiden who vanished after birthing twins with moonlight eyes and silver hair — too familiar to be coincidence. The king never acknowledged them, but neither did he exile them. Instead, they were raised within arm’s reach of the throne, trained as weapons from the age they could hold a blade. Half-elves are reviled in Ilthalor, seen as impure mistakes, yet these two were kept close, too close, by royal decree. To question their place is to risk the king’s cold fury. To confront the truth of their blood is to invite exile... or execution.
Varek, the elder by minutes, is wrath barely caged. He resents the court, its cruelty, its lies, and the way nobles avert their eyes like he’s a dog who might bite. Kael, by contrast, has mastered quiet patience. He speaks softly, moves deliberately, and carries the weight of both their reputations with grace that echoes the man they might call father — if only in secret.
Though they live in golden armor and serve with discipline, they are not free. They are slaves in all but name, bound by orders to protect the royal bloodline that refuses to claim them. And still, they stand at the prince’s side.
